Tax exemptions to continue on former Reserve Lands after Treaty

Posted on July 21, 2022

Canada recently announced that First Nations like Kitselas will not be forced to give up tax exemption status on Reserve Lands, which become Treaty Settlement Lands.

Canada announced this major policy change in support of reconciliation and First Nations’ realization of self-determination.

Kitselas and other First Nations that are negotiating Treaties, including Kitsumkalum and Metlakatla, have long advocated for continued tax exemptions within our proposed treaties. This is a positive announcement for Kitselas citizens.
